What if I am handicapped?

We are committed to the safety of all guests. Please inform us of any handicaps or mobility limitations in advance.

  • Liability: Participation is solely at your own risk, regardless of skill level. Paddleboarding requires the ability to perform all paddling tasks independently.
  • Safety Consideration: While we admire the courage to try new challenges, safety for all participants and staff is our priority. You must be able to paddle without assistance.

If you have concerns about your ability, we recommend consulting with us before booking. We’re here to provide honest guidance on whether paddleboarding is suitable for you.

How do I transport a board?

Transporting a board requires specific considerations due to its length:

  • Board Size: Boards are long and typically do not fit inside cars.
  • Transport Options: We offer a car rack system for $39 for purchase or complimentary for renters, with a credit card required on file.
  • Truck Transport: If using a truck, please secure the boards with rope, bungees, or tie-downs.

Always review your rental agreement, as you’re responsible for any damages incurred during transport. Call us at (954) 440-4562 for additional guidance.

Do you sell paddleboards?

Yes, we proudly sell high-quality paddleboards and offer exclusive perks to our board owners, including:

  • VIP Perks: Unique benefits exclusive to our customers.
  • Buy-Back Guarantee: Options for trade-ins and consignment on all boards purchased from us.
  • Warranty: Every board includes a 1-year warranty.

We are the exclusive dealer in Fort Lauderdale for SUPATX, the world’s largest paddleboard manufacturer. We are also a demo store for Lahui Kai Racing Boards, a renowned brand in SUP racing.

Our showroom is waterfront, allowing for free demo rides so you can test the boards before purchasing. For sales inquiries, call (954) 440-4562 or visit us online at SUPSmart.com.

What should I wear?

Swimwear: Normal swim attire is recommended.
Footwear: Reef shoes are advised to protect your feet from sharp areas or coral.
Sun Protection: Sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses are recommended. If using sunglasses, consider a neck cord to prevent loss in the water.

What size board do I need, and how heavy are they?

Our paddleboards vary in size and weight:

  • Weight: Boards typically weigh between 22 and 29 pounds.
  • Standard Sizes: We stock 10’6″, 11′, and 12′ boards, which are industry-standard sizes.

While generally easy to carry over short distances, be cautious in windy conditions, as the board may twist unexpectedly. This can require good stability and reaction time.

Where do we paddle?

Our paddleboarding options cater to all skill levels, from beginner lessons to advanced tours:

  • Beginner Options: We offer daily group lessons at 10 AM and 1 PM, including our Island City ECO Paddle and the “Venice of America” tour.
  • Quick Lessons: For those seeking a shorter introduction, we offer a 20-minute Quick Lesson to enhance your experience.

We operate from two main locations:

  • Main Showroom: 2520 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33305 – located on the river, providing easy water access.
  • Coconut Cove at Bonnet House Museum and Gardens: 900 N Birch Rd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304 – ideal for scenic paddling experiences.

Call (954) 440-4562 for reservations and further details.

Is there an age requirement?

Paddleboarding is open to all ages, but physical capability and water conditions are important considerations:

  • Tides and Currents: River tides and ocean conditions can vary unpredictably, affecting difficulty.
  • Life Jackets: Provided and required on all boards. Although the board itself serves as a flotation device, wearing a life jacket is recommended, especially for young paddlers.

Please advise our team of any specific needs for younger participants, and we will tailor the experience for you.

Is paddleboarding safe, and can I get hurt?

Paddleboarding is relatively safe, especially compared to other water sports, but precautions are advised:

  • Safety Equipment: All boards include a leash (to tether the board) and a life jacket (PFD).
  • Environmental Awareness: Reef shoes are recommended to prevent injuries from coral and sharp objects on the river or ocean bottom.
  • Weather Conditions: Always check local weather reports before paddling. We follow all ocean and intracoastal ordinances for your safety.

Our instructors are CPR certified and committed to providing a secure experience.

What happens if I fall into the water?

Our experienced instructors are here to make you feel confident:

  • First-Timer Friendly: Many beginners do not fall at all. If you do, our team is prepared to guide you on safely getting back on your board.
  • Water Quality: We operate in brackish water, which is regularly refreshed by the tides. While not intended for swimming, a quick splash is safe, and many guests enjoy a quick cool-off.

With over 50,000 guests served since 2010, safety remains our priority, and no guest has ever reported issues with water quality.

What is “SUP” and is it hard to do?

SUP stands for Stand-Up Paddleboarding, a sport that’s fun, accessible, and suitable for all ages.

  • Ease of Learning: SUP is one of the world’s fastest-growing sports due to its simplicity and adaptability. Calm waters are ideal for a peaceful experience, while paddling against currents can provide a solid workout for fitness enthusiasts.
  • Lesson Recommendation: We recommend a beginner lesson to ensure confidence and safety on the water.

Do you have a minimum or maximum group size for activities?

We can accommodate groups of 4 to 30 people, each with their own equipment. Whether for a family
